ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE

SCHOOL MANAGEMENT BOARD:

The Board in liaison with the directorate of education, HQ NAF is responsible for policy formulation and guidelines for the overall administration of the school. The membership of the school Management Board is usually determined by the chief of air Staff.

THE SCHOOL HEADQUATERS

The school headquarters is responsible for the effective and smooth running of the school. It oversees the activities of the other wings. The school headquarters comprises of the office of the commandant, vice principal Administration, vice principal Academics, Administrative officers, Officer in charge of the library, OIC Kitche, OIC Supply, MTO and supervisors.

ADMINISTRATIVE WING

The vice principal Administration assists the commandant in the day-to-day running of the school. For the purpose of the school. For the purpose of Administrative convenience, the vice principal (Administration) is responsible for:
(a) The general administration of the affairs of the teaching and non teaching staff (civilian staff) as well as the student.
(b) Oversees the general administration, discipline and welfare of staff and students;
(c) Prepares forecast of events, staff and students nominal rolls and duty rosters;
(d) Procures and issues uniforms, cardigans and sports wears
(e) Coordinates extra-curricular activities.
(f) Supervises religious, Social/Cultural. Games/sports in and outside the school;
(g) Supervises the function of the games master, house masters, club and coordinators, form and class masters/mistress, school prefects and matrons;
(h) Keeps attendance records (staff/students);
(i) Supervises staff and students duties.
(j) Checks staff/students punctuality and responds to various duty reports;
(k) Is the chairman of the disciplinary committee, welfare, Inter- House Club, etc;
(l) Organizes orientation for new students.
(m) Plan and supervises academic/social competition among staff as well as students.
(n) Organizes registration of all students into classes at the beginning of the session and updating same as they arise.

 

ACADEMIC WING:

The academic wing is the centre of all academic activities in the school. The Wing is headed by the vice principal Academics who assists the commandant in the day-to-day running of the school. For the purpose of administrative convenience the principal (Academics) sees to the following:
(a) Plans, supervises and conducts all academic programs of the school and deals with academic correspondences as assigned;
(b) Supervises the function of the Heads of department, Examination officers, Guidance/Counselors, Librarians and all teaching staff;
(c) Supervise the activities of the form teachers;
(d) Check registers and ensures that classes are taught.
(e) Ensure that the curricular are available in each subject, schemes of work are drawn up, lesson notes are properly prepared, and subject diaries are kept up-to-date;
(f) Ensures that continuous assessment is being carried out properly in the school records are kept;
(g) Ensure that (i) terminal (ii) End of session (iii) and external examinations are properly conducted and copies of results given to the students and duplicate copies properly filed;
(h) Supervises academic staff deployment to classes and attendance at lesson;
(i) Ensures that recommended text books are used by the students and staff in the school.
(j) Ensures functional time table for the school;
(k) Handles matters relating to the student subject choices and careers in collaboration with guidance counselors;
(l) Is the chairman of (i) Examination Committee
(ii) Time table committee
(iii) Speech/price giving committee
(m) Carries out any other task as assigned by the commandant.

ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

The school has two sets of students, the junior secondary school students and the senior secondary school students in accordance with the new UBE 9-3-4 system of education.
After six years of primary education, the students spend three years in the junior school and three years in the senior school. At the end of the junior school, the students sit for the junior school certificate examination conducted by the nation examination council (NECO). At the end of the senior school, the students write the west Africa Senior school certificate Examination council (WASSCE) organized by West African Examination Council and the National examination council (NECO). University matriculation examination organized by the joint admission and matriculation board is also written by the students. Students are not permitted to write the Nov/Dec. GCE while in school. They must use Jos as the centre for the JAMB. A minimum of eight and maximum of nine in the SSCE.

GUIDANCE AND COUNSELLING UNIT
The concept of guidance is larger that counseling. A guidance program is an organization effort of the school to help students to understand themselves so that they will be capable of making wise decisions and carry out their educational and vocational plans. Counseling on the other hand, is where the counselor helps the students resolve any obstacle to their academic progress or to handle decisional problems relating to their vocation, education and family.

The guidance and counselor department offers the following services;
1. Orientation services: Help the new students to find their feet, to know the school rules and the school environment.
2. Information services: Teaching and giving the students information they need o know how to aid their learning e.g. study habits, peer group influence, stress management etc.
3. Educational Guidance: Students are given both information and opportunity to make decision on the subject combination for the final examinations.\
4. Vocational guidance: The students are aided to understand the meaning of wok in the human life by exposing them to different occupations and career choices.
5. Personal Social Guidance: Students are helped to tackle issues such as etiquette and social courtesy.
6. Placement services: The counselor helps place a student in the appropriate class (Science, Artand Commercial) based on various factors such as personal interest profile, external examination results etc.
7. Referral Services: Students with academic problems are referred to the guidance and counseling unit by other departments.

EXAMINATION UNIT:

The examination’s officer is responsible for the organization and administration of the school’ internal and external examinations.


LIBRARY SERVICES


There is a school library stocked with books and several magazines. The library opens 8:00am and 4:00 pm, to 9:00pm daily. All members of staff and students of Air Force Girls’ Comprehensive School are bona fide users of the school’s library. The library is not open to outsiders.

REWARD FOR EXCELLENCE

The school has an annual and price giving day. The aims of this special day are:
a. To reward students who have excelled in their academic work ,morals, physical sports, co-curricular life in the course of the school year.
b. To encourage all students who are low in performance.
c. To encourage all students to strive for sustainable excellence.
d. To appreciate the efforts of teachers who have been exceptional in their duties.

STUDENTS AFFARS UNIT
The office is headed by student Affairs Mistress (SAM) who reports to the vice principal Administration and the commandant. This Unit is mainly responsible for the supervision of the students’ general welfare in the boarding house. The unit is responsible for the preparation of boarding house nominal rolls in the four houses, namely; Alpha house (Blue), Donier house (Green), Jaguar house (Red) and Puma house (Yellow). Each house is headed by a house mistress and assisted by an NCO whose responsibilities include seeing to the general welfare of the girls in the house.
