AFSS  Makurdi had been operating  the 6-3-3-4 system in compliance with the provisions of the National policy of Education. Presently, it has embraced the Universal Basic Education (UBE) Curriculum. The Curriculum encompasses a wide range of subjects offered in six Departments viz : Mathematics, Sciences and ICT, Arts and Social science, vocational and Technical Education as well as languages and Business Education.

The subjects offered in the junior Secondary School are  Mathematics, English Language, Basic Science, Social Studies, Home economics, Business studies, Basic Technology, French, Creative Arts, Physical and Health Education, computer Studies, Religious Studies (i.e. CRS/IRS),  Agricultural science, Music and Civil Education. The subjects offered in the Senior Secondary School are Mathematics, English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Geography, Economics, commerce, Agricultural Science, Financial Accounting, Food and Nutrition, Home Management, Technical Drawing, Visual  Arts, Further Mathematics, History, Religious Studies (i.e. CRS/IRS)and French.

There is a Guidance Counseling unit with qualified guidance counselors who render career counseling to student as Well as guide the student in their academic and psychological problems.
